Alice Medrich

Author, pastry chef and teacher Alice Medrich is a four-time winner of James Beard awards for her cookbooks, including Cocolat; Chocolate and the Art of Low-Fat Desserts; Bittersweet; and most recently, Flavor Flours. With formal training at the prestigious L’Ecole Lenotre in France, Medrich opened the influential dessert shop Cocolat in Berkeley in the 1970s. Since the sale of Cocolat, she has devoted her career to teaching and sharing her expansive knowledge about chocolate and baking. This season Medrich celebrates the publication of the new Dover edition of her first book, Cocolat: Extraordinary Chocolate Desserts—now considered a culinary classic.
