Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolate
St. Louis, Missouri The Bissinger family began creating their delicacies in 17th-century Paris for European nobility including Ludwig of Bavaria, King Louis XIV and Napoleon Bonaparte. Karl Bissinger, the company’s namesake, was named “Candy Maker of the Empire” by Emperor Louis Napoleon. He immigrated to Ohio in 1845. In 1927, his son, also named Karl, opened the first Bissinger shop in St. Louis. Bissinger’s chief chocolatier, Terry Wakefield, will be teaching classes.
